The Legacy System is an account-wide progression layer added in WoW Forever. It sits beside the class talent trees rather than inside them: Legacy Points are earned on the account through achievement-like challenges and spent per character in three separate Legacy Trees (Blizzard: Deep Dive Panel Recap).
This page covers the point economy, the three trees, the relationship to class talents, and the open questions. The three trees, every talent rank, the point cap and the list of challenges that award points now come from build 1.60.1.69913: see the Legacy System calculator and the challenge list. The prose below still cites published sources; where the game data says more, the calculator is the reference.
Legacy Points
Legacy Points are earned account-wide. The stated launch ceiling is 65 obtainable points (Blizzard: Deep Dive Panel Recap).
Spending is per character. Each character spends its own copy of the points independently of other characters on the account, and the per-character spend is capped at 16 points at launch (Blizzard: Deep Dive Panel Recap). Earning 65 points on the account therefore does not mean one character can spend 65; it means every character can pick up to 16 from the pool of unlocked options.
| Value | Number | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Points obtainable at launch (account) | 65 | Blizzard |
| Points spendable per character at launch | 16 | Blizzard |
| Class talent points (same total as Era; the trees themselves changed) | 51 | Blizzard and the general community; the beta build |
Both figures match build 1.60.1.69913: the Legacy Points currency has a maximum of 16, and 65 challenges award one point each. The 65 split into 27 class challenges (three per class), 18 tradeskill challenges (three for each of six crafting professions), 12 Player vs. Player, 3 dungeon, 3 raid and 2 adventure challenges; the full list with criteria is on Legacy challenges. The beta build has the 65 twice, one set for the Normal, PvP and Roleplay rulesets and one for Hardcore.
Relationship to class talents
Legacy Points and class talent points are separate pools. Spending Legacy Points “does not replace or reduce your normal 51 class talent points,” according to the general community. The mechanic itself is stated in Blizzard’s Deep Dive recap; the 51-point wording is the general community’s.
Class talent trees keep the 7-row structure and the one-point milestone talents at 11, 21 and 31 points, and add a new 16-point milestone (Blizzard: Deep Dive Panel Recap). The total of 51 class talent points is listed by the general community. In build 1.60.1.69913 the class trees are stored in the new talent data: 469 talents in 27 tabs, a 51-point talent currency, and one one-point talent in tier 4 of every tab, which is the 16-point milestone. The old talent table left over from Classic Era is still in that build, unchanged. See the talent trees overview, Forever talent trees and the talent calculator.
In short: 51 points in the class tree, plus up to 16 Legacy Points on top, on every character.
The three Legacy Trees
There are three trees. The tree names and the general themes come from Blizzard’s Deep Dive recap (Blizzard: Deep Dive Panel Recap). The talents below come from build 1.60.1.69913: each tree holds seven talents with 23 ranks between them (69 ranks across the three trees, against a cap of 16 points), plus two placeholder nodes whose text reads “To be added in a future update.” Talents deeper in a tree require 5 or 10 points spent in that tree. The calculators are on Legacy.

Published values next to the beta build’s values
The general community lists single values for the talents it names. The beta build has them as the first rank of a multi-rank talent:
| Talent | According to the general community | In the game, build 1.60.1.69913 |
|---|---|---|
| Talented | talent points from level 9 instead of 10 | five ranks: level 9, 8, 7, 6, 5 |
| Bountiful Harvest | +20% scarce material yield | five ranks: 20, 40, 60, 80, 100% |
| Well Rested | named, no value | five ranks: 4, 8, 12, 16, 20% |
| Reagent Economy | removes vendor-reagent requirements for class abilities | one rank; the same, plus Tier 1 camping features cost no reagents |
Blizzard states that the Camping system has Legacy perks (Blizzard: Deep Dive Panel Recap). In the beta build three talents name camps: Field Guide, Permanence and Reagent Economy; see the Camping guide.
Design intent
Blizzard describes the system as a way to incentivize alt-leveling “without Hardcore’s deadly consequences” (Blizzard: Deep Dive Panel Recap). Because points are earned once per account and spent per character, a second or third character starts with the full unlocked pool available.
Beta state
The Legacy System panel opens with the “Y” hotkey. In the September 17 beta build, opening it before level 25 throws Lua errors; this is listed in Blizzard’s Known Issues thread (Blizzard Forums: Beta Known Issues – September 17). The beta level cap is 20 at launch and rises to 30 later, so the panel is not expected to be usable in week 1. The game’s own tooltip for the locked button reads “This feature becomes available when your first character reaches level 25.”
Open questions
Dual talent specialization has not been confirmed or denied by Blizzard. Players are asking for it on the official forums with no blue reply as of 2026-09-16 (Blizzard Forums: Talent Respec thread; Blizzard Forums (EU): Dual spec out of combat). Whether the Legacy System interacts with respec cost is unknown.
The game’s own text reads “You can spend up to your current seasonal cap of %d Legacy Points in total.” That the cap of 16 is meant to rise over time is our reading of the word “seasonal”; Blizzard has only said 16 at launch.
Coming soon The contents of the Legacy rewards track. The game has “Legacy Rewards” and “Progress Track” interface text, and we have not found the data behind them.
