The mouseover macro /cast [@mouseover,help,nodead][] Flash Heal, split into its command, condition, fallback and spell
How a mouseover macro reads, left to right. Our diagram.
The full answer

To make a macro, type /macro in chat, choose New, write the text and drag the icon to a bar, where it works like a spell. A mouseover macro casts on the unit under your cursor; an empty condition block after it falls back to your target.

With /castsequence, each press casts the next spell in a list, and the sequence only moves on once the current spell succeeds. Holding Shift, Ctrl or Alt can switch the spell through a mod: condition.

The syntax follows the community wiki and every spell named exists in the Forever beta, but we haven’t tested each macro in Forever yet. Source: the community wiki’s macro pages.

Every spell below exists in WoW Forever’s beta game data (build 1.60.1.70245). Hover a spell for its tooltip.

1.

How to make a macro

  1. Type /macro in chat, or open Macros from the game menu Community wiki: Community wiki: Making a macro, not yet confirmed in Forever.
  2. Choose New, give it a name and an icon. The question mark icon lets the game pick one from the spells in the macro.
  3. Type the macro text, drag its icon to an action bar and bind it (keybinds).

Starting with #showtooltip sets which spell’s tooltip the button shows Community wiki: Community wiki: Making a macro, not yet confirmed in Forever.

2.

WoW mouseover macros

A Priest’s Flash Heal on the friendly unit under your cursor:

#showtooltip
/cast [@mouseover,help,nodead][] Flash Heal

Clauses are read left to right and the first match wins; an empty [] always matches, so with nothing suitable under the cursor the spell goes to your target Community wiki: Community wiki: Making a macro, not yet confirmed in Forever. help and harm check whether the unit takes helpful or harmful spells; no reverses a condition, so nodead means alive Community wiki: Community wiki: Macro conditionals, not yet confirmed in Forever.

A Mage’s Polymorph on the enemy under the cursor:

#showtooltip
/cast [@mouseover,harm,nodead][] Polymorph
3.

Cast sequence macros: Hunter and Warrior

/castsequence casts the next spell in its list on each press. A Hunter opening with Hunter's Mark, then Serpent Sting:

#showtooltip
/castsequence reset=target Hunter's Mark, Serpent Sting
  • reset=Back to the first spell after a number of seconds, target (new target), combat (entering or leaving combat), or shift, ctrl, alt. Join with a slash: reset=target/combat.Community wiki: Community wiki: /castsequence, not yet confirmed in Forever
  • A failed spell holds itThe sequence keeps trying the current spell until it succeeds or resets. So we’d keep cooldown spells out of it.Community wiki: Community wiki: /castsequence, not yet confirmed in Forever

A Warrior’s Rend and Heroic Strike:

/castsequence reset=combat Rend, Heroic Strike
4.

Modifier macros

Hold a key to change what the button does. A Priest with Renew on Shift, Flash Heal otherwise:

#showtooltip
/cast [mod:shift] Renew; Flash Heal

mod: accepts shift, ctrl and alt Community wiki: Community wiki: Macro conditionals, not yet confirmed in Forever. The semicolon splits the line into clauses, read like the mouseover macro above Community wiki: Community wiki: Making a macro, not yet confirmed in Forever.

5.

WoW targeting macros

One button that heals friends and damages enemies, with Smite:

#showtooltip
/cast [help] Flash Heal; Smite

/target with a name picks the closest name match, so a short name can catch the wrong unit; /targetexact avoids that Community wiki: Community wiki: Making a macro, not yet confirmed in Forever.

6.

Macros with a controller

The community wiki documents gamepad settings that make LT act as Shift and LB as Ctrl by default Community wiki: Community wiki: CVar GamePadEmulateShift, not yet confirmed in Forever, so in principle [mod:shift] macros work on a pad. Not tested in Forever’s Gamepad (Alpha) mode, whose own bindings are static in the beta Beta, may change: In the beta as of 2026-10-08, may change before launch Not confirmed in Forever: Not yet confirmed in WoW Forever. See best controller settings.
