New WoW Forever interface text now mentions BattleTag in several friend-related lines and quotes a cross-game description. One entry describes sending an invite by entering a BattleTag to chat “in game and across all Blizzard titles” and notes that the recipient must accept the request to become friends. Another entry is a simple “BattleTag” label, and a prompt allows either a character name or BattleTag. An error message says requests are only valid with BattleTag or character name. Blizzard has not announced this yet and details may change. For a broader look at the test version, see the beta overview and our changelog.

What the new text shows

One new line is a short label that simply reads “BattleTag.” A longer description says: “Send an invite by entering their BattleTag to chat with them in game and across all Blizzard titles. The recipient must accept the request to become friends.”

“Enter character name or BattleTag.” That wording suggests the same input field may accept either a character name or a BattleTag. A related message, “Requests are only valid with BattleTag or character name,” suggests other kinds of entries would not be treated as valid for this request. The mention of chatting in game and across Blizzard titles hints these invites may link to the broader BattleTag system. For general context on the project, see What is WoW Forever and our Legacy system overview.

Potential impact on social features

If these references turn into working BattleTag friend requests, players may be able to use a BattleTag as well as per-character names when reaching out. That could affect how people organise groups, manage friend lists and think about privacy, especially for anyone who keeps the same BattleTag across multiple Blizzard games.

The explicit note that the recipient must accept the request underscores a consent step. The “requests only valid” line also raises whether any other formats would be allowed. Updates should show up in future entries on our changelog.
