Blizzard’s September 24 beta update changes the Hunter in six lines: three about pets, one Marksmanship fix and two Survival changes.
Pets take the biggest change:
Furious Howl gives 40% less Attack Power,
Tame Beast no longer works on a Beast above the Hunter’s level, and Bat pets get
Sonic Blast as intended (September 24 development notes). Survival gains two things:
Lacerating Strikes can now land critical hits and
Strider Kick adds 30% movement speed for 3 seconds. When this post was written, our spell pages and the Hunter talent trees were on build 1.60.1.69913, and Furious Howl and Strider Kick still showed their older values there.
What to do: if you play Marksmanship and moved talent points out of
Lone Wolf, the -4% damage penalty with a pet active is gone. Beast Mastery players who bring a wolf for Furious Howl get a smaller group Attack Power buff than before. Survival players get a short speed burst from Strider Kick on top of its weapon damage.
The changes at a glance
Furious Howl: Attack Power bonus reduced 40%.
Sonic Blast: now properly available to Bat pets.
Tame Beast: no longer works on Beasts above the Hunter’s level.
Lone Wolf (Marksmanship): moving talent points out of it no longer leaves the Hunter at -4% damage while a pet is active.
Lacerating Strikes (Survival): can now land critical hits; Blizzard files it as a corrected issue.
Strider Kick (Survival): now increases movement speed by 30% for 3 seconds.
