Blizzard’s September 24 beta update changes the Druid in four ways: a renamed Feral ability, a Wrath damage increase, two spells that now follow spell power, and four spells that can land critical hits.
The rename matters more than it looks: Blizzard removed Mangle’s signature debuff, so the old name no longer described the ability, and every talent that referred to Mangle now refers to Primal Bite. Healers get the bigger practical change, since
Rejuvenation,
Tranquility and
Wild Growth can now land critical hits. When this post was written, our spell pages and the Druid talent trees were on build 1.60.1.69913, and
Mangle still carried its old name there.
What to do: if you play Feral, look for Primal Bite on your bars and in the Feral tree, and expect the Primal Fury talent to carry the Blood Frenzy name and icon. Balance Druids get a plain Wrath buff. Thorns now scales with the caster’s spell power and drops back to its base values when the caster is out of range.
The changes at a glance
Rejuvenation,
Tranquility and
Wild Growth can now land critical hits. Blizzard files each one as a corrected issue.
Wrath: base damage up about 50%.
Thorns: the damage now follows the caster’s spell power, with a fallback to the base values when the caster cannot be found or is too far away.
Mangle is renamed Primal Bite and loses its signature debuff; talents that referred to Mangle now refer to Primal Bite.
Primal Fury is renamed Blood Frenzy and gets the original Blood Frenzy icon back.
Feral Charge (Cat) can no longer be cast on allies.
