Builds and tier lists

Tier lists and popularity for classes, race and class pairings, and the builds people actually published.

What the community built

  • 1,166distinct builds
  • 9classes
  • 27specs

Every figure here is a count of distinct talent builds the community published before launch, counted once each, or a share of the answers people gave in the pre-launch polls. None of it measures who is playing the game. Builds made in our own calculator are added as they arrive. These are plans for level 60: the beta cap is level 20, so nobody has played one of them to the end yet. Popular is not the same as strong: the simulator that could tell them apart is being built, and it needs recorded fights.

Class popularity

How the published builds divide between the nine classes, builds counted.

  • Warlock 17% 202
  • Priest 15% 173
  • Shaman 15% 172
  • Hunter 12% 135
  • Rogue 12% 135
Show the other 4 classes
  • Warrior 9.9% 116
  • Druid 9.2% 108
  • Mage 8.9% 104
  • Paladin 2.1% 25

From 1,142 finished community builds gathered before launch and 28 made on this site, 13 Sept 2026 to 25 Sept 2026

Where the points go

Each class's published builds by the tree that holds the most points. Shares are within the class.

  • Warrior Arms 57% Fury 40%
  • Paladin Holy 50% Protection 38% 12%
  • Hunter Beast Mastery 35% Marksmanship 23% Survival 42%

Class tier list

Ranked by how often people chose the class when asked which one they would play. A tier here is preference, not power: it says how often people chose a class, and nothing about how it performs.

From 21,460 answers (Community poll: which class to main), to 20 Sept 2026

What the sources agree on

Every source that ranks the nine classes, counted once each, whether it counted answers, builds or players seen, or wrote a ranking down. For each class: how many of them put it in their top 3. A count of sources, not a share, and nothing is added or averaged across them.

  • Hunter Top 3 in 5 of 7 sources
  • Paladin Top 3 in 5 of 6 sources
  • Shaman Top 3 in 5 of 6 sources
  • Mage Top 3 in 4 of 6 sources
  • Priest Top 3 in 4 of 6 sources
  • Warlock Top 3 in 4 of 6 sources
  • Druid Top 3 in 1 of 6 sources
  • Rogue Top 3 in 0 of 6 sources
  • Warrior Top 3 in 0 of 6 sources

7 sources: 1 poll, 1 count of builds, 1 census, 4 community rankings. A source that never ranked an entry is not counted against it, so the second number can differ by row; where a source ties two entries for its last counted place, both are in.

Race and class tier list

Fifty-six pairings ranked by how often the community preferred the pairing when asked to choose between two: what people like the look of, not what wins. The ring is the faction, the badge the class.

Build tier list

The splits people published most, ranked by how many distinct builds land on each. Pick a class above for that class's own ranking. Planned, not played: a whole allocation needs a level past the beta's cap of 20.

Every build here is a plan a reader can open and change. Beyond the beta's level 20 cap. It is in the beta build, nobody can play it yet, and it can change before launch (Blizzard, 17 September 2026).
