Lightning Shielda familiar bolt with a lighter bite

there is something satisfying about answering trouble with lightning. Lightning Shield brings that feeling to Forever as a Rank 3 spell that casts a bolt of lightning at your target, dealing Nature damage. its cast is Instant, keeping the action brief and the spell’s purpose direct.

a familiar name can make it tempting to pass straight over an ability’s description. take a moment with this one instead. when you return to a spell you recognize, a small change to the words describing its effect can deserve more attention than the name above them.

How you get it

Lightning Shield is a Shaman class spell. we have not recorded how you learn it yet.

What changed in Forever

Classic Era 1.15.9 describes the effect as: “Casts a bolt of lightning at the target for 51 Nature damage.” Forever 1.60.1 describes it as: “Casts a bolt of lightning at the target for 40 Nature damage.” the description has been reworded, with a lower damage amount for the bolt.

for you, the practical takeaway is to approach this spell with fresh expectations rather than carry the old figure into Forever. the target-directed lightning remains the heart of the description, while its damage moves downward. read the comparison as a reason to reacquaint yourself with a familiar ability before settling back into familiar habits.

Who uses it

Elemental, Enhancement, and Restoration Shaman can all take an interest in this class spell. if you enjoy the elemental side of your character, its lightning offers a fitting expression of that identity. whatever your preferred specialization, there is pleasure in getting comfortable with your spellbook and noticing the details you might otherwise pass over.
