No. Engraving is not part of WoW Forever as announced, and the rune spells you can find on this site are Season of Discovery leftovers that the beta build still carries. If a search engine sent you to a page like
Engrave Ring - Fire Specialization, that page is a record of what the build holds, not of something you can do in Forever.
This page says what Blizzard has said, what the build’s data holds, why that data is there, and what would change the answer. It carries no prediction.
What Blizzard has said
Blizzard’s beta development notes, updated 24 September 2026, list one line about runes, under Bugfixes:
Fixed an issue that made a Season of Discovery rune ability visible.
(Blizzard Forums: WoW Forever Beta Development Notes, updated September 24, Kaivax.) A rune ability being visible is a bug in Blizzard’s own words. That is the whole of what Blizzard has said about runes in Forever.
Neither of the two panel recaps mentions Engraving or runes. The Deep Dive Panel Recap names Season of Discovery once, for its approach to faction balance under the PvP ruleset; the What’s Next Panel Recap names it once, as something Forever learned from. Nothing in either recap announces runes, Engraving or a rune slot on gear.
What the beta build holds
Game data from build 1.60.1.69913:
- A skill line named Engraving (skill line 2851), whose own description reads: Higher engraving skill allows you to learn higher level runes and apply them to your armor and weapons. Runes can be found hidden throughout the world.
- 271 spells named Engrave, then a gear slot and a rune (Engrave Chest - Deadly Brew), one per rune per gear slot, each with a class or a set of classes on the Engraving line. Two more spells sit on the same line without that name,
Runecarving and
Cobra Slayer. - Nine gear slots: Helm (29 runes), Cloak (28), Chest (34), Bracers (32), Gloves (34), Belt (29), Pants (38), Boots (30) and Ring (17).
Every one of these has its own page on the site, marked as a Season of Discovery leftover. The spell list reaches them by name, slot by slot: Helm, Cloak, Chest, Bracers, Gloves, Belt, Pants, Boots, Ring.
By class, counting the runes the Engraving line ties to one class, with an example of each:
| Class | Runes | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Warrior | 29 | |
| Paladin | 28 | |
| Hunter | 27 | |
| Rogue | 28 | |
| Priest | 28 | |
| Shaman | 29 | |
| Mage | 28 | |
| Warlock | 27 | |
| Druid | 28 |
That is 252. Of the other 19, 16 are ring runes the line ties to several classes at once (
Engrave Ring - Fire Specialization is for Hunter, Priest, Shaman, Mage and Warlock), one names no class (
Engrave Pants - Cutty's Rune), and two have no row on the Engraving line at all (
Engrave Pants - Aura Mastery,
Engrave Belt - Kill Shot).
Why leftover data is there
The same records are in Classic Era. The Classic Era build this site compares Forever against, 1.15.9.69722, holds the same Engraving skill line with the same description and the same 271 Engrave spells, id for id. The rune text of many of them differs between the two builds; a rune page’s Changed in Forever panel shows both versions where they differ. Season of Discovery was a season of that game, and its rune system is what these records describe.
Our reading of why the Forever beta carries them: the beta build is built on the same game as Classic Era, so what Classic Era holds, the beta holds too until Blizzard removes it. Blizzard has not said this; it is what the two builds side by side suggest. The bug note above is consistent with it, since a rune ability that becomes visible by mistake is one that was in the build all along.
Not checked in game
Whether an Engraving trainer, an Engraving tab or a rune drop is reachable anywhere in the beta is not known. No play session has seen one, and this site does not claim there is none. The beta cap is level 20, and everything above it comes from the build, not from play; see the policy page for how that line is drawn.
What would change this answer
- An announcement from Blizzard that runes or Engraving are part of Forever, in a post or a panel.
- A rune, a rune trainer or an Engraving tab seen in play in the beta.
- A build that removes the Engraving line and the 271 spells, which would make this page a history note.
Any of the three and this page is updated, with the date and the source in its changelog.
