Darkspear Islands is the one new battleground announced for World of Warcraft: Forever. Blizzard has published its size and its objective types and nothing else. This page covers what is confirmed, what build 1.60.1.69913 has, when it can be tested, and the ruleset system that decides whether a character is flagged for world PvP at all.
Blizzard has published no maps, reward tables, honor values or queue rules. Nothing below should be read as more detailed than the sources it cites.
Format
Darkspear Islands is a 15-versus-15 battleground. Its objectives combine control points with flag capture and defense (Blizzard: Deep Dive Panel Recap). Blizzard has not stated how the two objective types interact, how a match is won, or the match length.
The name places it in Darkspear Troll territory, but Blizzard has not published its location or a map, and this page does not speculate on either.
In the beta build
Game data from build 1.60.1.69913:
- A battleground-type map named Darkspear Islands (map 2997) and a zone of the same name, Darkspear Islands, with four sub-areas: Ruins, Camp, Shipwreck Cove and Abandoned Tower.
- Two new reputation factions. Darkspear Raiders: “Loyal to the troll nation, the Darkspear Raiders battle the Theramore Expeditionary Force for control of their ancestral Darkspear Islands.” Theramore Expeditionary Force: “Loyal partisans for their city, the Theramore Expeditionary Force battles the Darkspear Raiders for control of the so-called Darkspear Islands.”
- A Legacy challenge, Master of Darkspear Islands, awarded for exalted reputation with either faction (42,000 reputation in the criteria). It sits next to the same challenge for Alterac Valley, Arathi Basin and Warsong Gulch in the Legacy challenge list. Its requirement text calls the map “the Southseas Archipelago battleground”.
- 12 of the 65 Legacy challenges are in the Player vs. Player category: five honor ranks (3, 7, 10, 13 and 14), the four battleground reputations, and three Field of Honor journey weeks (4, 7 and 10).
- One Legacy talent raises honor:
For Great Honor in the Resourcefulness tree, 2 to 10% more Honor Points over five ranks.
What the four sub-areas are in play (control points, flag rooms, graveyards) is not in the data we export, and matching them to the announced objectives would be a guess.
Coming soon Map image, objective counts, win condition and rewards. None of them is in the game data we publish.
Beta availability
The battleground is not available in beta week 1. Blizzard states it “will open for testing” later in the beta, alongside additional zones and dungeons (Blizzard: Beta Now Live). No date for that opening has been given.
The beta level cap is 20 at launch and is raised to 30 later in the test (Blizzard: Beta Now Live). Which level bracket the battleground will be testable in has not been stated.
Rulesets instead of realms
Forever has no traditional named realms. At character creation a player picks a ruleset: Normal, PvP, Roleplaying, or Hardcore (Blizzard: Deep Dive Panel Recap). The PvP ruleset is the Forever equivalent of rolling on a PvP realm; how ruleset populations are split into shards or layers has not been described.
Because names are unique account-wide rather than per realm, characters use a two-part naming convention (Blizzard: Deep Dive Panel Recap).
According to the general community, a separate opt-in Hardcore Mode ruleset is planned for Winter 2026, after launch. Blizzard’s own roadmap confirms a Hardcore mode is coming but does not date it (Blizzard: What’s Next Panel Recap).
Faction balance
The neutral Skyborne race can be played on either faction, with the stated design goal of helping reach “50/50 faction balance on most Forever servers,” according to the general community. For a 15v15 battleground and for the PvP ruleset, that balance is the relevant population question, but no Blizzard statement ties the Skyborne to PvP queue times or world PvP directly.
Post-launch PvP
Blizzard’s roadmap lists “PvP updates” among the content following the December 9, 2026, raid unlock, without detail (Blizzard: What’s Next Panel Recap). No second battleground, arena, or honor system change has been announced.
What is not known
No source reviewed for this page covers: the map layout, the number of control points or flags, the win condition, rewards other than the two reputations above, honor values, level brackets, or whether existing Classic battlegrounds change.
